When God finished creating ( Book of Genesis ) He declared everything was perfect.. . . That included the human eye. The human eye is capable of seeing things in high dynamic range. This means it can balance or average extreme brightness and darkness. In digital photographic terms, the highlights and the shadows. Likewise, it averages tonal extremes. Digital cameras hardly produce such in high contrast lighting situations. Comes now the need for some photographic skills and post-production software and techniques to produce HDR images. The race for camera manufacturers now is in the field of producing camera equipment that can capture images at high dynamic range at image capture. As of this writing, the race rages on.
The technological, creative and artistic challenge in digital photography has been in creating images with high dynamic range. The workflow starts from image capture in the camera by bracketing at least two different exposures (the ideal would be three different exposures from dark to light), combine these images and add finishing touches in post-production using software such as Photomatix, Photoshop and others.
This photo page is a foray into the subject of High Dynamic Range.
